From one sentence to the sky · Step 14 of 15
The number that does not move
The grip is the same at every place and every age. A null — and the switch that fires if it is not.
Step three said: one reality, one now. If that is true, the grip cannot change from place to place, or from age to age. The grain is the same grain at every place and every tick.
So the work wrote it down before the measurements. The grip does not vary. Not with place. Not with time. Not with how crowded the world around it is.
Physics has looked for decades. At Oklo, an ancient natural nuclear reactor. In the light of distant quasars. In the best atomic clocks. Single readings scatter. The newest return zero.
This prediction has no number of its own. It is a null: the absence of an effect. Every picture with a constant grip shares it. So a null confirms nothing on its own. It is written down because a prediction that cannot single anything out must still be written before the measurement.
And it is the sharpest blade in the work. If the grip is ever shown to vary, by two independent methods, at the discovery standard, the strongest claim in the work dies.
What it stands on
What it predicts
That the fine-structure constant does not vary across place, epoch or density.

What would kill it
A variation of α(0) reported at five standard deviations or better, by two independent methods, standing after their systematics are reviewed. From the frozen document, 2026-09-11-alpha-no-variation. Frozen before the measurement.
